Welcome to Iowa PVA's Website

The Iowa Paralyzed Veterans of America (IPVA) is a non-profit organization and is one of 33 chapters which represents our national organization, Paralyzed Veterans of America. Our membership is free and consists of veterans of the United States Armed Forces who have suffered a spinal cord injury or received a diagnosis of disease affecting the spinal cord.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Paralyzed veterans of American, please accept our most sincere appreciation for your interest in our organization. It is our pleasure to share with you an overview of the organization and a few of the primary projects and programs we provide to assist our veteran members:

  • Providing a National Service Officer to assist veterans in the process of their claims through the Veterans Administration.
  • Sponsoring athletes who attend the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and other sporting or recreational events.
  • Providing funds for patient programs at both the Des Moines and Iowa City VAMCs, and at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
  • Providing funds for medical personnel to attend special training seminars dealing with the care and treatment of spinal cord injuries/dysfunction.
  • Providing funds for foundations and corporations who promote finding a cure and/or improving the quality of life for those with catastrophic spinal cord injuries or diseases (these include both national and local research projects).
  • Providing education and advocacy to the community at large to improve the accessibility to the public and private institutions for all disabled individuals.
  • Sponsoring social activities for our members and their families.

Iowa PVA relies solely on private donations and receives no governmental funding. All contributions are tax deductible*, as we are a 501(c)(3) corporation. We are a veteran's service organization charted by Congress.

  • 89% of every donation made directly to the Paralyzed Veterans of America - Iowa Chapter goes directly to the eight designated programs supported by the Paralyzed Veterans of America - Iowa Chapter.
  • The Paralyzed Veterans of America - Iowa Chapter relies solely on donations and grants and receives no Governmental funding. Additionally, the Iowa Chapter does not utilize telemarketing or direct mail solicitation of donated funs.
  • All donations made directly to the Paralyzed Veterans of America - Iowa Chapter supports local Veterans and Iowa Chapter members.
  • Your donations support both service connected and non-service connected disable Veterans.

In the spotlight!

All Hands on Deck

Thank you to the men and women of All Hands on Deck who volunteer monthly as ushers at Riverside Casino to donate to our Midwest PVA Fishing Event

Holy Trinity (Presented on June 14th)

Thank you to the 5th graders at Holy Trinity School in Des Moines for their donations of hand made blankets and personal created Thank you cards! Your kindness and respect means so much to our veterans.

Pistol Shoot (June 16, 2023)

On June 16, 2023, we held our annual Pistol Shoot and Midwest Shooting Supply in Hiawatha, Iowa.


Scott Miller, IPVA President, had the privilege to meet and speak with Brigadier General Enoch "Woody" Woodhouse, a decorated WWII veterans and the last surviving member of the original Tuskegee Airmen while attending PVA National Convention in Omaha, Nebraska.

Seehusen Donation (April 2023)

Thank you to Seehusen Insurance Agency from Mechancsville, Iowa who donated to the Midwest PVA Fishing Event.

2023 Trapshoot (June 16-19)

Iowa Chapter hosted our 11th Trapshoot in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at Otter Creek Sportsman's Club. We hosted the year-end event on the National PVA Trapshoot Circuit. We had 32 shooters, numerous volunteers and several spectators from all over the United States. (Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Virginia and Washington DC!)

Applebees (May 9th)

Thanks to Appleebee's on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines, Iowa, for having IPVA as a "Together We Care Tuesday" partner. We were able to raise over $500 towards the National Veterans Wheelchair Games

NVWG - Iowa Chargers

Several IPVA members and coaches traveled to Portland, Oregon to participate in the National Veterans Weheelchair Games. Over 500 Veterans attended competing in 22 sports.
